The 2018 Ford EcoSport SUV has been officially launched for the US market.
And, this time it’s not about performance or fuel efficiency but rather the experience that people gain when driving this compact and stylish new SUV.
According to Ford, it is the smallest SUV they have ever created and is a robust offering to expand their presence in the compact crossover segment. The new EcoSport is designed to be a stiff competition to the likes of Honda HR-V and Buick’s Encore models. They have already managed to sell millions in the past few years while Ford is taking its big step into the segment.
“Times have changed where the younger generation in America look at a car and seek an experience. The technical specifications no longer matter but what you feel and do when driving is more important. A vehicle should be able to do it and we believe our new SUV will be able to meet expectations,” said Michael O’Brien, group marketing manager.
The SUV is built on top of the platform already being used by the Fiesta and offers two different engines. There are four different trimlines at different price points and varying packages designed to meet the needs of different individuals. The first one uses a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine and a more powerful version uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Both these powertrains uses naturally aspirated, direct injection technology and are mated to a six speed automatic transmission setup.
Modern day amenities found in the 2018 Ford EcoSport SUV include fast charging USB ports in the dashboard with 12v power outlets and a 110v power outlet is available in the backseat so that rear passengers could make use of it. The car is equipped with SYNC 3 infotainment system which has a large 8-inch touchscreen display and it has vastly improved when compared to the previous version found in Ford cars. Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity is supported by the infotainment system.
The interiors offer best headroom for passengers despite being mounted on a compact platform. There is no word on its pricing yet because Ford is not going to bring this promising SUV to the U.S. market until 2018. It’s such a long wait and by that time there will be plenty of hybrid as well as electric cars in dealership stores. Ford may choose to add a hybrid to the lineup but launching the new EcoSport SUV next year is a much better choice as buyers would love to go for this promising new launch.
