The upcoming Apple iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus are both touted to come with a dual lens camera.
In addition, the 7 Plus could also be upgraded to the A10 processor, with 3 GB of RAM. According to rumors, it will also have a Smart Connector, have waterproof features and come in similar dimensions to the present model. Another leak claims that iPhone 7 will come with a 256 GB, flash memory. The entry-level model will probably continue to remain 16 GB along with another 64 GB version
Some other changes suggested by rumors include elimination of Home Button and integrating TouchID with the button on the display. Though this does not seem likely, it could make the device smaller and at the same time retain the screen size. Other leaks have suggested that Apple is getting rid of the headphone jack for the iPhone 7. Some pictures have been posted online and though the design is very similar to the iPhone 6S, a significant change is the missing headphone jack. The bigger speaker cutout has now replaced the headphone jack cut out. The hole for the camera will also be larger. However, it is not sure whether the dual camera will be present for the Apple iPhone 7 as well as the iPhone 7 Plus. The dual camera will be useful for improving zoom as well as the overall quality of the pictures.
Many suppliers are now gearing up for the release of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus in September this year, as Apple is known for making launches at that time. However, there is a problem with the camera production, which could spoil these plans or at least delay the launch.
Sony Lags Behind
It has been rumored that the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, 5.5 inches model will have a dual lens in the camera. According to latest reports, Sony seems to be behind schedule in case of producing the dual lens modules for the iPhone 7 camera. This will probably result in Apple turning towards LG for the major portion of the modules in case of the iPhone Plus models. Sony is not able to complete its quota, as the yields were less than expected. The earthquake occurring in Kumamoto in April is also largely to blame, as it caused damage to the production facility, according to Chris Chang from Nomura Securities. LG Innotek is another supplier that Apple frequently depends on and they could probably offer the major portion of the initial orders.
Dual Lens Camera
According to Chris Chang, all the upcoming iPhones, including the 5.5 inches ones will come with a dual lens camera. The 4.7 inches phone models will also have OIS, which was a feature previously available only for the Plus models. The iPhone 6 as well as the iPhone 6S did not have OIS features, whereas the 6 Plus and the 6S Plus had it. OIS is a significant enhancement offering software stability and minimizes image blurriness; especially those shot in dim light or in action.
