Google has confirmed that it is currently working on a solution to bring the fingerprint swipe support to the Google Nexus 5X and the Google Nexus 6P.
Both devices have started receiving the android 7.1 update in the last few weeks. The latest version of Google’s Android operating system brings several improvements to the Nougat family apart from the multi-window and quick app switching toggles only. One element of the operating system which has been extremely well received is the fingerprint swipe support.
The Google Pixel and the Pixel XL can use the fingerprint scanner as a way to quickly access the notification bar with a swipe. This feature was made available with the latest android 7.1 update. Even though many of the features found on the Google Pixel and the Pixel XL made its way to the Google Nexus 5X and the Google Nexus 6P, this fingerprint swipe support has been one conspicuous absence. Users have been quick to point this element and Google has responded by saying that it will now consider the addition of this feature.
Launched in mid-2015, the Nexus 5X and 6P belonged to the line-up which may no longer be available from Google. The software giant his making a conspicuous switch to higher end phones and the Nexus family of devices will no longer be promoted. Still, it did not prevent these two products receiving the latest Android Nougat update. The Nexus 5X comes with a snapdragon 808 processor and 2 GB of RAM, while the Nexus 6P has a much more user-friendly 3 GB of RAM paired with a snapdragon 810 processor.
In terms of outright performance, the Nexus 6P may not be a major upgrade over the Nexus 5X but there will be differences in terms of the multitasking abilities due to the higher amount of RAM. The launch of the new Pixel devices from Google means that it is possible to grab the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P on significant discounts. Considering that this phone is still can offer a lot of performance and will provide Android Nougat experience straight away, they would seem excellent options.
Even by today’s standards, the Nexus 5X and 6P feel let down only be the amount of RAM. Aspects like a USB Type-C port, laser autofocus on the 12-megapixel rear camera, and fast charging capabilities make the devices feel more modern and great value for money options.
