As many smartphone OEMs across the globe are working hard to bring their devices to the latest standards by updating them with the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow, HTC seems to be having issues.
The Taiwanese company has announced that it will be halting its Marshmallow update to AT&T’s HTC One M8 as well as last year’s HTC One M9. With this new announcement, the Marshmallow update for these two flagships from 2014 and 2015 has now been rescheduled to “within the next couple of weeks.”
This is not the best news for those who still rock the 2014 HTC One M8 and those using the 2015 flagship – HTC One M9 – as the two smartphones are still considered among the best from the company. HTC was clear about the delaying part, however, the person revealing the news, company Product Manager Mo Versi, failed to mention the reasons that led to the sudden change in dates. What Versi could only manage to promise is that HTC is working hard to ensure that the update comes to these devices.
Smartphone OEMs have been accused of deliberately delaying updates to their devices, with Samsung already having faced the wrath of denying consumers what is rightfully theirs. In most cases, the blame can be heaped on the OEM but sometimes carriers have their say too. For instance, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint have all availed Android 6.0 Marshmallow for all units of HTC One M8 and HTC One M9. Whether the company rolls out different setups of the OS for the various carriers is still not determined, but this is highly doubtful. Nevertheless, the announcement means that AT&T users will now have to keep on showing their patience until somewhere in mid-May or so.
Just like many other Android smartphones that have seen the Marshmallow update come their way, those on HTC One M8 and One M9 will benefit from features such as Doze for efficient battery management, Google Now on Tap for providing relevant information when inside apps, better apps permissions system that lets you choose the permissions each individual app can access and many others.
Keep following us and we’ll keep you informed immediately the Marshmallow update is available for your HTC One M8 or HTC One M9.
