HTC Vive Smartphone Leaked – Could be a VR-Focused Phone with Support for Vive 2

HTC Vive VR

HTC launched the Vive headset back in 2016, coming in as one of the high-end VR headsets of the said year alongside the Oculus Rift VR and PlayStation VR.

In case you didn’t know, the HTC Vive only works with select high-end PCs and given that the company’s closest rivals in the business – Samsung and Google – are heavily focused on the smartphone world, it seems HTC has something huge coming up for their fans.

According to a new leak coming from Evan Blass, there is a new HTC Vive smartphone in the pipes. The phone leaked via a video the company is showcasing with respect to its 2017 plans for the smartphone world. Some expected to see the Vive 2 appear at the CES 2017 event, but this did not happen. In fact, the company had already dismissed these rumors, saying that it is focused on coming in with a strong, growing ecosystem that takes care of current and future owners of the HTC Vive.

The new HTC Vive smartphone could be the answer to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL or Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge – all of which come with support for a virtual reality headset. The former are compatible with Google Daydream View VR while the latter works perfectly with Samsung Gear VR headset. Given that there are talks of the HTC Vive 2 being wireless as the company looks to ditch USB and HDMI cables, we could end up with a Vive-branded smartphone that is compatible with the HTC-made headset.

There is little we can gather from the leaked image of the HTC Vive phone, but it appears that the phone is almost certain to be launched in the coming weeks, if not months. The phone has a weird looking contoured back that should give it a unique feel. Given the high-end specs required for VR content, it is possible that the phone could come in with some of the best hardware specs as well.

We should know more about this HTC Vive smartphone soon. Keep following us and we’ll update you with the latest news about this phone.
