The Apple iPhone 8 is about to get big, really big with a 5.8-inch OLED display according to a new rumor.
The phone will be upgraded with some of the much awaited features so that they don’t lose the market to Samsung and other major players.
According to a report from a Korean website, Apple has planned to increase the size of the existing iPhone 7 Plus into a much larger iPhone 8 Plus. Instead of the usual 5.5-inch display, the manufacturer is eyeing a much larger display with a 5.8-inch display. It brings the phone much closer to Samsung Note 7 among other phablets in the market. The report also adds that even though there are plans to launch three different phones in 2017, Apple may go with a small 4-inch display, 4.7-inch iPhone 8 and the large 5.8-inch iPhone 8 Plus skipping the 5.5-inch model that existed so far.
The new phone will have amazing clarity and color reproduction made possible by the OLED display Apple plans to use. The model will support wireless charging for the first time in years. A feature users have been expecting for a very long time but they didn’t integrate it so far until now. It is also rumored to sport the highest quality infrared sensors near the rear and the front camera which leads to better face, gesture recognition. Another big claim is that Apple will remove the home button and integrate the fingerprint sensor in the display. It will use 3D touch capability to find the pressure a person exerts to perform appropriate actions.
With laser sensors, it might finally be possible to use futuristic security measures like Iris scanner and accurate face recognition to unlock the phone. In addition, the iPhone 8 and other models will receive IP68 waterproof rating with much better resistance against water and dust penetration. The removal of the 3.5-mm headphone jack was primarily associated with making the phone waterproof and we hope they have done it this year so as to justify their claim.
The large 5.8-inch display is a hit or miss trial for Apple as the iPhone 8 Plus if we are to go by rumors could be huge to actually use comfortably in the real world scenario. There are no updates that claim it might come with a stylus for increased productivity. We look forward to the announcement from Apple but as always they may add some of the rumored features while leaving the rest for iPhone 9.
