Microsoft unveiled Windows 10 towards the end of last year and went ahead to release the first mobile phones running on the same operating system – Lumia 550, 950 and 950XL.
With these phones tagged as high-end devices, the company now has started working its way to the entry-level market. The new Microsoft Lumia 650 is meant for those lower class earners who still want to own a decent smartphone at a very affordable price. Of course, the company has promised lots of goodies with respect to the new Windows 10, among them Cortana, Continuum and so on, however, the fact that it is dishing out Windows 10 builds means that rolling out smartphones running on this OS is still slow.
Surprisingly, the entry level Lumia 650 is already available in quite a number of markets across the globe including the UK, but it has yet to hit the company’s own turf. The good news here is that the Lumia group, through its U.S. Twitter handle @LumiaUS has promised that the device will soon make its way to the country. However, there is no word of when exactly this release is to take place, but it is expected before the end of this week.
AT&T’s Cricket to sell Lumia 650
Recently, word has come out that American carrier AT&T will be selling the imminent Lumia 650 in the country through its subsidiary Cricket. However, this has not yet been confirmed, but it should be in the few coming days or weeks. We also expect to have more details with respect to other carriers that will be selling this affordable device.
As the phone plans to make its way to the U.S., it will be interesting to see how the local market embraces Microsoft’s marketing campaigns. The company has been marketing the device to the enterprise world, offering companies to get them in bulk for their employees.
