It appears that Lenovo is getting ready to release the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update to the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition, otherwise known as Moto X Style in other markets.
The flagship was replaced last year by the Moto Z, but still, Motorola had promised to update the phone to the latest Android version at some point this year. Well, it seems the release date is just around the corner as a few users of the phone are reportedly receiving invitations into the company’s traditional soak test for Android 7.0 Nougat.
A Motorola soak test is where the company installs a new OS on a few devices first and if the whole thing has no issues, the rollout continues to the public at large. Now that the soak test for the Moto X Pure Edition is on, it shouldn’t be long before the OS starts rolling out to the masses across the globe.
Motorola has a soft touch for the Brazilian market since it’s not the first time that this market has led the way in terms of Android 7.0 Nougat soak tests. Apparently, the few cases that have been reported are from the South American football powerhouse and they say that the update weighs about 1.3GB. Other than being limited to the Brazilian market, at least for now, the update is also limited to those who have registered their Moto X Style phones with the company’s Feedback Network.
This update will give the Moto X Style a new breath of life with a bunch of new features based on Android 7.0 Nougat alongside others that are specific to the Moto X Pure Edition handset, among them a new set of Moto Actions. Of course, the continued rolling out of the update will depend on the success of this soak test. If all goes well, other users of the phone across the globe will start seeing the OTA notification in the coming weeks or months for that matter.
The Moto X Style was unveiled in 2015, but it came to the U.S. as the Moto X Pure Edition. Being a 2015 flagship, it packs a huge 5.7-inch QHD screen, a Snapdragon 808 SoC, 3GB RAM and a massive 21MP snapper on the back. The front has a great 5MP shooter for selfies and to keep it going is a 3000mAh battery.
