The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are barely five months old yet rumors of their successors, Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge are already doing rounds.
This all started with the company’s showcasing of a 5.5-inch 4K display screen at an event a few months ago, a screen that is believed to be targeting the VR and AR worlds, with Google’s Daydream VR platform in mind. While this is happening, Samsung’s fiercest rival in the smartphone world, Apple, is working on releasing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this September. Already the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are outdoing the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, and it might just get worse for Apple’s upcoming devices as soon as the Galaxy S8 is unveiled at the MWC 2017 event.
According to the incoming reports, it seems the new iPhone 7, if it gets a nod ahead of the Galaxy S7 towards the end of the year, will not make it against the 2017 Samsung Galaxy S8. This is not just about the hardware specs, but this has everything to do with the quality of display you will be getting on the Galaxy S7 successor. With the ever-growing VR and AR markets, there is need for capable screens that can handle VR and AR content. This is what Samsung has in mind with its upcoming Galaxy S8 display unit.
Apple will reportedly stick with the Retina Display technology for the iPhone 7 despite numerous rumors linking the company to Samsung’s OLED panels. If this indeed happens, the phone will definitely stand no chance against the 4K display panel used on the S8. Even though Samsung showed off a 5.5-inch 4K display screen, this was just a prototype and nothing has been finalized just yet. Still, some rumors had pointed towards a 4K display with the upcoming Galaxy Note 7, but this is highly unlikely as all rumors and speculations in the recent past have taken the side of a 2K display panel, which should be the case.
As for now, all we can do is wait, but expect more details to keep showing up regarding this 2017 Samsung Galaxy S8. We’ll be here to update you.
