Sony’s PS Vita Receives Twitch App Right After PS4 Launch

PS4 Twitch

Twitch is the most popular and biggest game streaming platform in the world.

But, it is such a late entrant to Sony platforms including its PS4 and PS Vita consoles.

Millions of gamers around the globe watch Counter Strike Global Offensive, Dota 2 and League of Legends among other popular tournaments online with the help of Twitch. A dedicated app for the website is already available on both iOS and Android devices. However, gaming consoles which were supposed to be the primary market for this app received it so late. The developers rolled out the dedicated PS4 app in the month of March this year. After a couple of months, it has now landed on the PS Vita platform.

It’s a surprising announcement of them all because almost everyone now considers the PS Vita to be a dead platform. There are hardly any notable games on it and developers have totally abandoned it except for porting some indie titles from the Playstation 4 platform. The developers at Twitch didn’t forget it and probably they also wanted to make sure their app is available on all Sony platforms. With the launch, they have finally completed their presence on Sony and Microsoft platforms without leaving any of their devices out.

Twitch

For those who own the PS Vita handheld gaming console, you can download the Twitch app. The file size is 16.7 megabytes which is moderate for the job it does. When you download it, you will be able to watch live streams of games, tournaments and related events. The app also allows video recording, easy way to browse through popular gaming channels and a special selection of content handpicked by Playstation broadcasters. The new app is designed to work with the Playstation TV. Not many can boast of owning one but if you are among the exclusive lot, you can make use of it.

While Twitch was meticulously launched on all platforms, the company choose to skip Wii U. They probably assumed that there are no serious gamers on the Nintendo platform. Even those use the same doesn’t prefer watching gaming tournaments or live events like people do on the PS4, Xbox One or the PC.

Twitch is growing at a rapid pace and is easily the go to platform for online game related video streaming, similar to Youtube. They are trying to expand in new areas like the social eating category. It’s seriously weird at the moment but might become a fashionable thing to do in the near future!
