Google started rolling out Android Nougat towards the end of last month, with the first devices seeing the OS as from August 22.
This was earlier than usual for a new OS to show up on Android devices, nevertheless, it is only available on select Google Nexus phones.
The select phones include Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, and Nexus 5X – all of which can now access the software via an OTA update. This comes as good news for many owners of these devices who were yet to see the OS come their way. It has been live for those who were already part of the beta program, but the OTA update has just been confirmed to be headed to these devices in the coming weeks.
Many people who own these three phones started asking questions of when Android Nougat will actually hit the Nexus 6P and co. Of course, being an OTA update, it should take different periods to reach all compatible devices. As a result, there might be some device owners who could receive the OS earlier than others. Don’t fret if you haven’t seen the OTA notification yet, instead, keep checking for the same via the Software update section of your Settings.
Other than the Nexus 6P, Nexus 6 and Nexus 5X, the new Android Nougat update is also rolling out to the likes of Nexus 9 Wi-Fi, Nexus Player, General Mobile 4G, Nexus Player as well as the Google Pixel C tablet. Like the Nexus phones, this Nougat update will also reach these devices at different times, possibly depending on the region, but other factors like model numbers might also come into consideration.
Google has recently started rolling out the latest September security patch for Android Nougat devices, meaning those who get to install the latest version will also get this patch installed on their devices. Given that this is just a usual security patch, it only comes with a few fixes here and there, but there is no major addition to the previous features.
As for those who want to get their hands on a device that is powered by Android Nougat out of the box, be sure to check out for the LG V20, which should start selling in a couple of weeks following its official launch yesterday.
