Back in June, before HTC was confirmed as the company behind the Google Nexus 2016 phones, a Huawei executive was quoted saying that the Chinese company will also be making a Google Nexus product this year.

Well, it is now confirmed that indeed the company will soon be launching a Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet – a device that will refresh the current Nexus 7 which was released back in 2013. The 7-inch tablet has no official launch date yet, but some of its specs have already been leaked out to the wild. According to serial leaker Evan Blass, the new Google Nexus 7 2016 will come packed with a massive 4GB RAM.

While little has been said about the Google Nexus 7 or any other Nexus tablet, almost everything is known about the Nexus 2016 phones. In addition to the specs and features, recent rumors have suggested that the search engine giant will do away with the Nexus brand name and instead, this year’s phones will be known as Pixel and Pixel XL.

Sometimes back, the CEO of the company, Sundar Pichai, noted that Google will be assuming a more opinionated role as far as the development of the Nexus line of smartphones is concerned. Perhaps, the change in names is just the beginning. Leaks have also shown that the company will probably do away with the “Nexus” logo on the back of the 2016 phones and instead use a “G” logo.

With this in mind, it is also easy to conclude that the upcoming Google Nexus 7 2016 tablet could possibly take the same direction and adopt a new name. As for now, the name of the upcoming 7-inch tablet is anyone’s guess. However, there have been rumors that the tablet will take inspiration from the Pixel C while back in April, Huawei came in with a trademark for the Huawei 7P, which could possibly be this year’s Google Nexus 7 tablet.

The emergence of phablets has meant that the tablet business has stalled. Google came in with a Nexus 9 in 2014, but it was not the best. The company’s Pixel C tablet was without doubt an amazing piece of hardware, however, unless you are using it with Android Nougat, you might never get the best out of the tablet. Refreshing the Nexus 7 tablet is the best thing that Google can do, especially since the tablet is characterized by affordability, great looks, durability and it’s easy to pocket.

Huawei made headlines with the Nexus 6P and everyone is looking forward to an even better Nexus 7 2016 tablet. Even though the dates have not been confirmed, it is expected that Google will launch this tablet alongside the Pixel and Pixel XL phones at an event scheduled for October 4th.
