Hyundai i30N Is Ready To Beat Ford Focus RS When It Arrives

The upcoming Hyundai i30N has generated so much hype even before its official launch.

It is anticipated to be the big competitor to beat the Ford Focus RS performance wagon.

Hyundai’s answer to the Focus RS comes from their own performance division. Head of the department, Albert Biermann said that the N division crew is going to be quite ambitious with their goal. They are planning to use a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with a front wheel drive. It is reserved for the base model and there will be many more trimlines in the lineup to satisfy sports car enthusiasts.

Speaking to a leading automobile magazine, Biermann admitted that he is highly fascinated by the performance delivered by Ford Focus RS. “We are already looking at it and it is not surprising that our team is interested in bringing the best out of Hyundai. In the near future, we will experiment a lot based on how the N division grows in size,” he said.

The division’s boss discussed in detail about the pros and cons of building a performance car. He shared that it is quite easy to build something right away but it may not be adopted by customers which in turn affects their dealers.

“We want to take one step at a time and when we do, our goal is to ensure the technology and the pricing of the superfast sports car is embraced both by our customers and dealers. Going along with the time matters a lot but at the same time we like to innovate. In the near future, I can see C-segment high performance cars powered by all-wheel drive heading to the stores,” said a confident Biermann.

The Hyundai i30N is coming but we have very little details available with regards to the car. According to inside sources, the model will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine and deliver up to 255 horsepower. In order to compete with the Ford Focus RS, a version of the i30N with a 2.3-liter or higher powertrain is mandatory. The RS edition delivers a solid 345 horsepower and Hyundai has to keep up with it to offer an equal competition.

The only thing that Biermann is doubtful about is whether people who go for Hyundai brand love such powerful cars. They have so far been the usual commuters who opt for an i10 or i20 to cater to their regular needs. They will be testing waters with the i30N before bringing in some powerful cars.
