Even though Google has already dropped the latest version of Android Nougat, it has only but signaled another long journey that will see compatible devices updated to this OS.
As usual, the journey begins with the company’s own line of Nexus devices, with the newest members taking the front seat. These include the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X as well as 2014’s Nexus 6. The update is also compatible with the likes of Nexus 9, Android One, Nexus Player and Google Pixel C, however, most of these devices are yet to see the OTA notification so far.
The good thing is that you can skip this waiting line and get the latest Android Nougat OS installed on your Nexus device right away. Unlike before, 2016 offers more options for updating your device to the latest OS without waiting for the OTA update. Check them out and opt for one that suits you.
Android Beta Program
Google introduced the Android Beta Program where eligible Nexus devices can sign up to the program and try out this version. All aforementioned Nexus devices are eligible and it can happen right away. In fact, this method will give you access to the latest build that Google has released, however, make sure you back up your data before jumping into the beta program because your phone could be wiped.
Flash Android Nougat OTA update
Another way of getting Android Nougat onto your Nexus 6P phone is to flash the OTA update onto the phone. However, this requires some familiarity with ADB and fastboot, but the good side is that unlike the former, there is no wiping of previous data or even the need to sign up to the beta program. You can check out for all the OTA packages for Android Nougat right here.
Flash factory image
There are always those who love doing things from scratch and this can be done with a factory image for your Nexus handset. Again, you can check out for more details on these factory images via this link.
