Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Codename and Camera Details Tipped

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S22 to bring camera improvements over the Galaxy S21 series.

Each new generation of Galaxy S-series phones brings something exciting, whether in terms of cameras, performance, or design. The Galaxy S21 unveiled earlier this year could not make a big impression. But, Samsung has reportedly started working on its successor that will be called Galaxy S22. Each flagship Galaxy S-series gets a launch date around January and we can expect the same with Galaxy S22 series.

Like the S21 series, the upcoming S22 series is said to bring 3 phones: Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Tipster @FrontTron has revealed that the Galaxy S22 series has the codename “Rainbow“. The three models have the code-name “R”, “G”, “B”, where “R” is for the base model, “G” for the Plus model, and “B” for the Ultra model.

The tipster has also leaked the camera specifications of the Galaxy S22 series. According to him, the vanilla and Plus variant of Galaxy S22 will feature a triple camera setup on the back which may include a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. These details may or may not be 100% accurate. So, it’s better to take with a pinch of salt.

No 200-MP Sensor?

Samsung is said to be working on a 200-megapixel camera sensor which was expected to debut with Galaxy S22 Ultra. But the tipster claims that the device will get a 108-megapixel sensor. So, the Galaxy S22 series might not get a 200-megapixel sensor. However, several other smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi and ZTE are reportedly in talks with Samsung to bring the 200-megapixel camera sensor to their smartphones.

Rumors are that the Galaxy S22 series will not get an under-display selfie camera and very unlikely to have a 3D ToF sensor. The Ultra model is said to be equipped with a glass back, while the vanilla and Pro model may get plastic back.
