Sony seems to be the only Android OEM that still has a place for the people who are privileged to have small hands. Last year, in addition to coming in with e mega-size Xperia Z5 Premium, the Japanese tech giant also came in with a 4.6-inch Xperia Z5 Compact that housed the same hardware specs as the premium model, but with varied display qualities.
Now, this year, the company dropped the Xperia Z series in favor of a new Xperia X series. At launch, three handsets were unveiled – Xperia XA, Xperia X, and Xperia X Performance. Interestingly, these three have the same 5-inch display screen, but with different hardware specs. Later on, the tech giant added the Xperia XA Ultra, a phablet that houses mid-range specs.
In the latest developments, a Sony Xperia X Compact is rumored to be in the making, with a planned launch at the upcoming IFA 2016 event to be held in Germany. The company will reportedly accompany this Compact phone with a Xperia XR or XZ for rumors’ sake and we already have some details regarding the expected specs of these two handsets.
As noted earlier, Sony has always tried to keep the same hardware specs on its Compact models at the same level with the premium variants. With the upcoming Xperia X Compact, the same is expected, meaning you get a chance to interact with a device that fits perfectly into your hand and offers the same performance levels as their larger counterparts.
Just like the Xperia Z5 Compact, the new Xperia X Compact will reportedly come with a similar 4.6-inch display screen size, but the resolution has not been confirmed. In addition to this, the powerful Snapdragon 820 will be powering the compact handset, but the RAM has not been mentioned, although it should be in the regions of 3GB, similar to the Xperia X Performance.
In other leaks, it has been speculated that the Xperia X Compact will pack a decent battery unit of 2700mAh, which will be recharged via a USB Type-C cable.
As for the Xperia XZ (some reports call it Xperia XR), the tech giant is looking at another flagship that packs a Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM. The back of the phone will come with a high-end 23MP snapper with dual-LED flash and laser autofocus. The front part will house a 13MP snapper, which should be one of the best, if not the best when it comes to video calls and selfies.
In terms of display, the Xperia XZ will add 0.2 inches to the current Xperia X Performance as well as a 2.5D glass on top of it. There are no details of the battery capacity or the pricing of the phone, but expect a USB Type-C port and a premium price for this flagship, especially when looking at the current pricing of the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance. There are also no pricing details regarding the smaller Xperia X Compact.
The IFA 2016 will kick off on September 1 and it is during this period that Sony is expected to announce the Xperia X Compact and Xperia XZ. Since Sony hasn’t come forward with any details regarding these phones, be sure to take this leak with a pinch of salt.
