WhatsApp has been updated to version 2.16.240 for Android users. This is the latest release in the series of updates that developers push to the most popular mobile messaging service almost on a daily basis.
The cross-platform instant messaging and social media platform is the most used service of its kind in the market today.
The phenomenal chat service is a product of two frustrated software engineers, Jan Koum and Brian Acton both former employees at Yahoo. After leaving Yahoo the duo became frustrated, interestingly enough they at one point sought employment at Facebook but were turned down (Facebook would later purchase the app). The two went for a vacation from where they came up with the app on February 24, 2009. WhatsApp was launched on the App Store in January 2010 and was first used on an iPhone.
Social media big cheese Facebook Inc. purchased the client on February 19, 2014, for a reported US$19.3 billion. At the moment, over a billion users open the service to interact with colleagues, friends, and relatives according to statistics released in February this year. Since Facebook’s acquisition, WhatsApp has been updated severally. The updates have not only added new features they have also been fixing bugs and stabilizing the system. Some of the major functions added so far includes Voice Calling feature which contributed to the tremendous bulge in the number of users and the end-to-end data encryption security protocol.
Back to the update, the latest WhatsApp Beta version 2.16.240 released on August 23 has nothing new except the usual fixes and system enhancements. The developers are always keen on fixing bugs they realize and those reported by users. After the update, we could see the voicemail feature working very smoothly. Remember the feature allows you to leave a voice message when your call is rejected or missed. Besides, missed calls are now embedded within the chats.
WhatsApp 2.16.240 is a testing version and may have bugs and other issues, which is normal with Beta releases. In case you sense something odd, please report to the developers so that they are fixed when a stable version is released.
