Upcoming Xiaomi Mi 12 is tipped to have the codename “K8” and likely to launch next year.
Xiaomi Mi 11, which debuted last year, marked a good success. The company has reportedly started working to launch its successor that will be called Xiaomi Mi 12.
Reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station through a recent Weibo post suggested that the “K8” codenamed device may belong to the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 12. Further, he says that the device may not launch in the second half of this year.
Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 10 back in February 2020 and Mi 11 came in December last year. Based on this, we can expect the Mi 12 to go official between December 2021 – February 2022. The smartphone is said to come with upgraded charging speed over the last year’s Mi 11. The Mi 12 may offer 100W wireless charging and the wired charging may be limited to 120W, which was first seen with Mi 10 Ultra.
Past reports believe that Xiaomi Mi 12 might use under-display selfie camera technology, which is also being tested by several other smartphone manufacturers. ZTE was the first to commercially launch the under-screen selfie camera phone, but that couldn’t manage to grab much attention as the selfie camera was visible when the device was titled at some angle. We can expect other smartphone companies to learn from ZTE’s mistake and brings some improvements to the under-display camera technology. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 which might launch in August 2021 is also said to be equipped with the same technology.

Xiaomi Mi 12 is expected to have the same high-end display specs as in Mi 11. It is likely to have an LTPO panel that improves battery life by automatically adjusting the refresh rate between 1-120Hz. The Mi 12 lineup will include an ‘Ultra’ model which is said to be the first phone to be powered by un-announced Snapdragon 895 SoC. To recall, the Mi 11 was the first device to launch with Snapdragon 888 SoC. So, we won’t be surprised if Xiaomi Mi 12 becomes the first to get the next flagship chipset from Qualcomm which could be Snapdragon 895 SoC.
