Yoshi-P is of the opinion that a single game would not be able to justify the scale and ambition of the remake.

Though one has heard several rumors about the Final Fantasy 9 remake, the publishers have not uttered a single word on it. In the last year, one has come across several leaks pertaining to the game. A couple of months ago, the title appeared as a part of the Epic Games Store Database leak. All the leaks and reports that have come to the fore so far make one believe that the remake is happening. The Dawntrail expansion by Final Fantasy 14 played an important role in making one further believe in this possibility.

Naoki Yoshida, who is the director of Final Fantasy 14, and fondly referred to as Yoshi-P, has stepped forward and stated that the Final Fantasy 9 references that one came across in Dawntrail have no connection with any potential remake plans for the game. He also stated that nobody from his team and himself is responsible for the reports surrounding the rumored title.

Yoshida, while giving an interview to Video Games, was asked an interesting question. The question was which Final Fantasy game, according to Yoshida, should be getting a remake. Yoshida said that he, personally, would love to see a Final Fantasy 3 remake coming out. He, however, acknowledged the fact that many fans are asking for a Final Fantasy 9 remake but doing something of this sort would not be a simple task. He said that “it’s a game with huge volume” and therefore, remaking it would require a lot of effort.

Everybody in the gaming community acknowledges the fact that Final Fantasy 9 is a massive game. Yoshida stated that if Final Fantasy 9 is ever remade, much of the barren overworld in the game would be reworked upon. There are many elements in the game that would be presented differently. Given the scale of the game, Yoshida believes a Final Fantasy 9 remake cannot be just a single game. It will probably be spread across two games.

Regardless of what the team says, fans are of the firm belief that Square Enix is currently working on the development process of the Final Fantasy 9 remake. While Yoshida has not confirmed anything, his statements indirectly suggest that the remake would be massive, detailed and designed to match up to the mammoth expectations fans have from it.
