Many fans are of the belief that an official announcement about the game will come through soon!
While one has been hearing rumors about Square Enix working on a remake of Final Fantasy IX, nothing has been confirmed by the studio yet. This year, Final Fantasy completes 25 years of being released on the original PlayStation. In the past, Square Enix has dropped hints about developing “various projects” that fans will get to see released in due course of time. One of the important projects Square Enix seems to be developing at the moment is an anniversary vinyl referred to as “Timeless Tales”. From this vinyl, Square Enix has rolled out part of a newly recorded version of the track “Melodies of Life”.
The fresh version of “Melodies of Life”, interestingly, has been put together by Emiko Shiratori, who was responsible for coming up with the original version as well. A video, released by Square Enix, shows the recording being supervised by Nobuo Uematsu, the original composer associated with the game.

As brought to notice by Reddit users, the studio seems to have put in way too much effort for the release of a vinyl soundtrack on the eve of the game’s anniversary.

Ideally, a newly recorded version of a track released a long time ago would not attract a lot of attention. One must, however, take into account the fact that one has come across a large number of rumors and leaks pertaining to the Final Fantasy IX remake. Back in 2021, the game’s remake found a mention on a leaked list from Nvidia’s GeForce Now.
When the aforementioned list became public, Nvidia made a claim about it featuring “speculative titles”. It has been four years and many of the games mentioned on the list have not been released. The Final Fantasy IX could be seen as an exception, as one has heard a lot about it from different sources. For a while now, fans have been waiting for an official announcement to come through.

Fans believe that 2025 is just the right year to make an official announcement about Final Fantasy IX. In the past, one has seen Square Enix using Geoff Keighley’s shows as a platform to make announcements about its games. Fans have been making speculations about the dates when one could witness a formal announcement about the Final Fantasy IX remake being made. While a section of fans believe an official announcement about the game could be made at the Summer Game Fest, which is scheduled to be held next month, some are of the opinion that this would happen on July 7, the day the game completes 25 years of its existence.
Some of the rumors, which had come to the fore in the past, had suggested the possibility of the Final Fantasy IX remake arriving in 2026. If these rumors were to be true, Square Enix could decide to make a formal announcement about the game next year.
