The Google Pixel 9a was in the news recently revealing a major change in design when compared to its predecessors.
The smartphone is the base model in the Pixel 10 lineup with the other handsets being the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The same source that cited the above design changes has now reported that the Google Pixel 9a will be launched earlier than anticipated.
Expected Launch Timeframe
A new report now indicates that interested buyers will be able to place a pre-order for the Pixel 9a in the middle of March 2025. This will be followed by in-store availability and shipping at the end of the month.

If the above report proves to be true, the release will happen two months before the anticipated May launch, which falls in line with the manufacturer’s annual Google I/O developer event.
Other Pixel A Series Smartphones to Follow Suit
The same report hints that the early launch timeframe is not exclusive to the Pixel 9a. It states that the manufacturer’s future Pixel 10a and other forthcoming smartphones in the Pixel A series will follow the same trend for the launch date.
This means that the Pixel 10a smartphone will have a March 2026 launch and its successors will be launched in March in the following years.

Google is also reported to be planning on a faster launch of the next version of its operating system, Android 16. This means that the operating system could be out before June which is four months before the timeline the manufacturer had adopted for up to Android 14.
It is not clear why Google is planning for a speedy launch. This is likely because wants to be ahead of Apple when it launches its iPhones. The manufacturer may be speeding up the Pixel 9a launch so that it will be available before Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 4.
