GTA Online: One Might Need To Undergo Age Verification To Play The Game

GTA online Money Fronts update

GTA Online players based in the UK could experience it earlier than others!

If the claims made by an industry leaker are anything to go by, Rockstar Games could soon be introducing an age verification system in GTA Online. This could happen well before GTA 6 is launched. Rockstar seems to have arrived at this decision in order to align with fresh regulatory requirements.

Launched in 2013, GTA Online has managed to carve out a distinctive identity for itself as a robust online multiplayer action-adventure game.

The game’s popularity is driven by the enthusiasm of a large player base, which has remained loyal to it for a very long time. From combat to role-playing, players engage in a variety of activities while playing the game.

While GTA Online has maintained its popularity for more than a decade now, a section of the fans is of the opinion that it does not get as much attention as some of the other games in this space. Now, Rockstar could be introducing certain changes in the game that could the kind of access players have to the game and the experience they go through.

As per Tez2, who is known to be one of the most reliable Rockstar Games insiders, the studio has plans to introduce an age check mechanism in the online mode of GTA 5. This move is in sync with regulatory shifts that have happened recently. The Online Safety Act in the UK has recently come into effect. According to this law, online platforms will have to work towards getting the age of users verified to ensure minors do not get access to content that is considered to be illegal or inappropriate.

Tez2 further stated that the studio could implement the aforementioned age verification system in a regional manner. The UK is believed to be the first region where this system will be implemented.

At the moment, there is not enough clarity on the kind of effect this system will have on overall gameplay. However, based on the way this system has been designed, one can make some assumptions.

There is a good possibility of a few features like text chats, phone messages, and photo sharing through Snapmatic, asking the user to confirm their age before they can access them. Right now, one does not know if players will be required to verify their age to gain access to the game or a few features.

There are two things fans would want to know at this point. One, when will this update be out? And two, the kind of impact it will have on the game. What one is quite certain about is that UK players could be the first ones to be affected by it, owing to the new requirement put forward by the Online Safety Act.
