If an insider is to be believed, the popular franchise will culminate with Half-Life 3.
When the first Half-Life was launched in 1998, developer Valve and publisher Sierra Studios would not have expected it to become the massive hit it went on to become. It was not just the first game in the series but also the first-ever product launched by Valve. The game used many techniques that went on to be replicated in other first-person shooter games.
If a recent rumor is anything to go by, the much-awaited Half-Life 3 will be the last game in this long-running franchise. The Half-Life games revolve around a scientist named Gordon Freeman. Along with combat, the game touches upon themes like exploration and puzzles.

When one thinks about franchises in PC gaming, Half-Life is one of those games that feature in the primary list. After rolling out Half-Life in 2004, developer Valve decided to come up with episodic follow-ups to take the series ahead. While Half-Life 2: Episode 1 and Episode 2 managed to impress fans, one was quite disappointed to see the development process of Episode 3, which happened to be a version of Half-Life 3, coming to an abrupt halt.
Though it has been two decades since Half-Life 2 was launched, fans remain hopeful about the arrival of Half-Life 3. They got further hopeful about it when the VR prequel Half-Life: Alex was launched in 2020. The prequel made fans believe that they would soon get additional series entries to check out. In the last few years, one has come across several instances suggesting that Half-Life 3’s development process could have been resumed and the game might release this year itself.
Recently, well-known insider DanielRPK stated, through his paywalled Patreon channel, that Half-Life 3 might just be the last game to release as a part of the franchise. As per the insider, this would be the game that would bring Freeman’s story to a close.

The insider has claimed that Valve has consciously worked towards making Half-Life 3 the “final chapter in the franchise”.
Fans have been waiting for the game to arrive for two decades now. The developer, therefore, believed that it would be the right title to bring the series to a close with. As a studio, Valve is known for not being too dependent on its franchises and working towards creating new ones.
