iPhone 17 Air Not Likely to be ‘Slim’ As Originally Stated

The rumor mill has churned various leaks in the past, projecting the new iPhone Air as the iPhone Slim because of its very slim profile.

However, a new report suggests otherwise, as the iPhone 17 Air smartphone is not likely to be as slim as originally planned.

Battery Restrictions

It was earlier said that Apple would be developing a high-density battery that would help the purported smartphone have a slim profile. However, a Naver user yeux1122 has now stated that the manufacturer is now facing production challenges for the high-density battery. This will stop Apple from achieving the ultra-slim design goal it had in mind for the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim.

Revised iPhone 17 Air Design

Apple originally planned to incorporate a battery with a very thin substrate to make the iPhone 17 Air as possible. However, unable to keep up with the high production costs and manufacturing constraints, Apple is now slated to have a thickness of more than 7 mm for the upcoming handset.

The above-mentioned will prevent the upcoming smartphone from being thinner than the iPhone 6, the current slimmest handset from the manufacturer with a thickness of just 6.9 mm. The iPhone 17 Air is supposed to replace the iPhone 16 Plus which has a thickness of 7.8 mm. Hence, there will be only a minor difference in thickness between the two smartphones that is not worth pointing out.

Significant Upgrades

Irrespective of the constraints, the smartphone will deliver significant upgrades in the performance, display, and camera departments.

The iPhone 17 Air will incorporate a 5G modem developed by Apple that contributes greatly to its overall performance. The handset will encompass a display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and ProMotion technology. It will additionally have an improvised 48 MP main camera sensor and a 24 MP front camera.

Apple is not the only manufacturer facing constraints with its planned slim model. Samsung also has its fair share of problems with its upcoming Galaxy S25 Slim because of the battery density.
