iPhone 17 Reported to Portray a Significant Change in Design

iPhone 17

The iPhone 17 lineup has been in the news over the last few months with a lot of interesting insights about the various smartphones in the series.

A new leak now talks about an interesting and yet significant design change.

Going by the Weibo post by the leaker, the manufacturer has incorporated the design change in how the frame and the rear panel are connected. The translation from Chinese hints that Apple will opt for a slope instead of a step-like design. If this is true, the glass and frame on the back will likely merge into each other with a curve, thereby getting rid of the straight edges. This will improve the hands-on experience when using the smartphone.

As the leak does not mention any additional details, it is uncertain at this moment if the design change applies to all the smartphones in the iPhone 17 lineup, only the non-Pro variants, or the Pro counterparts. Apple has a record of making changes to only two smartphone variants in the series in the past.

Other Expected iPhone 17 Lineup Changes

The iPhone17 series will have some noteworthy changes over its predecessors. To get started, the manufacturer is planning to do away with the Plus variant and introduce a Slim or Air variant in its place.

While the ProMotion technology was earlier restricted to just the Pro variants, it is now believed that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will now support this feature.

All the smartphones will have a selfie camera with a 12 MP resolution and a six-element lens. This will be a major lift from the 12 MP camera that the manufacturer has opted for so far.

The handsets will house Apple’s A19 processor under their hoods. The iPhone 17 Air/Slim will be the first smartphone to incorporate the manufacturer’s 5G modem whilst the other handsets will feature a Qualcomm modem.

The entire lineup, including the iPhone 17 Air/Slim is slated to be released in September 2025 in contrast to the Galaxy S25 Slim which will be launched at a later date after the release of the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra on 22nd January 2025.
