Though not confirmed by Mojang as yet, the free cape should arrive in the game soon.
If a new Minecraft leak is anything to go by, players could soon get a free cape in the game. This year’s first snapshot is out and it indicates that new cosmetics could be a part of the game soon. As far as in-game cosmetics are concerned, capes have always been important. Gamers have always looked forward to trying out the new variant.

The new leak, brought to the fore by data miner @SmokeyStack_, seems to have been sourced out from the files that are a part of the newest 1.21.60.25 preview. If the information provided by the leak is accurate, players could be getting a new cape soon. The leaker stumbled upon text in the files which said, “You did it. You’re all signed in, which means you have a fancy new cape to show off”.

As per the data that has been mined, players would receive a free cape when they sign into Minecraft using their official Microsoft account. A while back, Mojang itself has implored players to move to the new account. However, many players continued to play the game without going through the sign-up process. There is a possibility that the developer could offer this cape as a reward to players who sign in.
As stated earlier, capes have always been a part of the cosmetic offerings in the game. While the Minecraft Eerie Mojang Office Party offered the eyeblossom cape. The creeper cape, which was designed as a paid add-on, ended up attracting a lot of controversy.

Now, the developers could use this cosmetic as an incentive to get players to sign up with their Microsoft accounts.
Till now, Mojang has not given any information about when one can expect this free reward to be introduced in the game. There is a possibility of it releasing a teaser soon to make a confirmation about it.
