As per the statements of a Minecraft YouTuber, players should get to see this mob in the game soon.
A new Minecraft leak hints at the possibility of Mojang rolling out a mob that was earlier discarded at the stage of ideation itself. For more than 15 years, Mojang has been working consistently towards introducing new features in the sandbox game. However, not all their plans go through and become a part of updates. If the recent leak is anything to go by, a canceled feature might be revived soon.
Ever since The Garden Awakens drop was rolled out, Mojang has maintained a stoic silence over it. Fans had been quite surprised about it as Mojang, as a company, has never been known to be discreet about its updates and the kind of content one could expect next.

Wattles, who happens to be a popular Minecraft YouTuber, uploaded a video in which they spoke about a new leak pertaining to a scrapped mob idea that Mojang had conceptualized way back in 2021. This discarded mob was referred to as the Firefly.
During the Minecraft Live 2021, Fireflies were revealed to be a part of the then-upcoming 1.19 Wild Update. Despite the reveal, Fireflies were not included in the game. While some hoped for them to be a part of the Beta versions, that didn’t happen either.
The YouTuber stated that they got some information from an anonymous leaker about Fireflies being included in Minecraft through an update that will be rolled out in the near future. In the video uploaded by them, one can see them talking about how the initial leak happened on a Discord server which they were not a part of. They also revealed a message sent by the anonymous leaker which read, “Just saw phoenix’s new video. It’s abysmal what passes for a leak nowadays. Here’s a better one for the spring drop :) ⬛”
Wattles did not take too long to decipher the message and stated that the leaker could be pointing towards Fireflies being introduced in the game via a future update. The leaker also made a mention of ‘spring drop’ which could possibly be a code name for the upcoming game drop.

Though the claims made by the YouTuber are interesting, it must be stated here that Mojang has not made any announcement about Firefly’s presence in Minecraft. If the leak has some substance, the gaming studio should make an announcement or share some updates about it soon.
There was a definite reason behind Mojang deciding not to go ahead with its plans to integrate it into the game. It was soon found out that fireflies proved to be poisonous to certain species of frogs. This led to Mojang’s decision to scrap the mob.
