Minecraft Free Underground Tokyo Location Map

The Japanese Government has made it possible for one to explore this location virtually through the game.

The Japanese Government has just launched a Minecraft map featuring the largest underground flood prevention facility in the world. While players should be initially happy about it being offered as a free-to-download map, they should also appreciate the fact that it gives them the opportunity to explore one of the iconic locations in Tokyo.

The Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, also referred to as G-Cans by many, happens to be a real-life disaster prevention facility. The facility has often been discussed because of its pressure-adjustment water tank. This tank is a massive cavernous space featuring 59 massive pillars.

It has often been described as a “battle-worthy location” owing to its features. Many in Japan refer to it as the “underground temple”. This location has attracted several people from the media and entertainment. Over the years, several Japanese music videos, movies and TV dramas have been shot here.

Exploring the G-Cans becomes a possibility during the dry season. Now, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has made it possible for one to explore this location in Minecraft. The ministry has also gone ahead and uploaded a video on their official YouTube channel, which gives one an idea about G-Cans, the purpose they serve and how they appear in Minecraft.

The aforementioned facility is not the only thing the free G-Cans map feature. One also comes across an overground area comprising homes, rivers and neighbourhoods. All this will work towards giving players an idea about how G-Cans safeguard the residents and places in Tokyo. One would also have the option of getting inside the control room and draining flood water into the shafts.

G-Cans have been recreated in Minecraft with the aim of making more people aware of the facility and how it plays a part in preventing disasters. Now, Minecraft itself will give you an idea about how big these G-Cans really are. The concrete tunnels in G-Cans cover a distance of 6 kilometers under Saitama Prefecture, which happens to be a part of the Greater Tokyo Area.

It has five shafts which do an effective job of capturing water from flood-prone rivers when the rainy season hits Japan. It also proves to be highly useful during the typhoon season. All the accumulated water gets discharged later into the Edogawa River and Tokyo Bay. G-cans were completed in the year 2006 after being through the construction process for almost a decade.

In the last few years, G-Cans have been instrumental in dealing with flooding in Tokyo and the areas surrounding it. Players have the option of downloading MLIT’s G-Can’s Minecraft map for free from the Edogawa River Office’s official website.
