Netherite has often been regarded as one of the strongest materials in Minecraft. It is known for adding extra knockback resistance and durability to diamond gear. In the Nether, it is often found in the form of rare ancient debris blocks. Earlier, one had to have a netherite ingot and a smithing table to convert a diamond gear into netherite.
Last year, Mojang brought in an additional item in the game in the form of the netherite upgrade smithing template. Once it was added, a lot of players stated that there was no immediate requirement for it to be included in the game. The primary reason behind it is the fact that it makes the process of procuring netherite much more cumbersome.

As a part of the 1.19 Wild Update, Mojang introduced the netherite upgrade smithing template in the game. It also added a few other armor trim templates that one comes across in other structures. All this was a part of the UI change taking place within the smithing table. Initially, Mojang had planned to incorporate new designs for player armor via armor trims. As netherite is also applicable on the smithing table, the studio went ahead and put together a new smithing template that one needed to upgrade diamond tools to netherite.
With the introduction of the netherite upgrade smithing template, players had to deal with another step to putting together netherite tools. As soon as it was launched, players noticed several issues with it.

As far as the netherite smithing template is concerned, it has a 10% chance of generating chest loot in the general chests of Bastion Remnants. The treasure chest is the only chest in which one will always find these items. Since it is surrounded by lava and magna cube spawners, reaching the treasure chest is not a simple task either.
