The OnePlus 13s is touted to be a cheaper alternative to the OnePlus 13 T from the brand.
This manufacturer has now announced that the smartphone will have a new physical button called the Power Key. This button will take the place of the Alert Slider in the earlier handsets and be positioned in the same place. Interestingly, the China-exclusive 13 T also has this button.
Unlike the Alert Slider that had a fixed function, the Power Key can be customized to perform various functions based on the preferences of the user when it is pressed. In other words, it can act as a shortcut for daily actions done using the handset.
Power Key Functions
Some major functions that the user can perform using the Power Key are highlighted below.
- Access the camera of the handset quickly
- Swap between the General, Do Not Disturb, and Silent sound profiles
- Do a voice recording instantly
- Turn the flashlight on
- Capture a screenshot using a single tap.
- Open the built-in AI translation tool
Apart from the above functions, the Power Key can also be set such that it does not perform any function at all.

According to OnePlus, the Power Key is not intended to just a substitute for the Alert Slider. It is an attempt to take the smartphone one step forward by delivering an in-depth integration with the manufacturer’s OnePlus UI. In the long run, this button may emerge as a contextual assistant that analyzes the user’s usage patterns and behavior to foresee his/her needs.
