While Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received surprise updates by Rockstar Games in the past, it is not a common occurrence. The last time the game received a surprise update was 3 years back. This particular update has fixed some of the lighting features in the game. Along with it, it has brought in several other improvements which have made the game more appealing to fans.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which was launched in the year 2021, featured the ‘definitive’ versions of Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Once the GTA Trilogy arrived on console and PC, one expected ardent GTA fans to warm up to it immediately. The game, however, was criticized for a lot of things including the newly designed lighting system.

The new environmental lighting system was incorporated in the definitive editions of the GTA games. While fans were initially happy with this step, soon enough they realized that this new lighting system ended up robbing the games of their individualistic tints. GTA San Andreas, for instance, was known for having a dominant orange hue and now, it was gone. Fans did not approve of the character models either. It must also be mentioned here that when GTA trilogy’s definitive edition was launched, one came across several reports pointing towards the presence of bugs and the occurrence of crashes.

GTA fans made it clear that they were not pleased with the lighting changes. Rockstar acknowledged this and started working towards making amendments. The gaming publisher came up with an apology and ended up re-launching the PC version of games on its store. Rockstar made the classic PC games accessible to those who had bought Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in the past.
