Details of the Xiaomi 16 series have started emerging even before the global launch of the Xiaomi 15 lineup.
An earlier leak hinted at the screen size of the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro. The latest rumor now points out the details of the processor and one of the cameras in both smartphones.
Processor and Camera of Xiaomi16 Series
The post by tipster Digital Chat Station on the popular Weibo platform does not mention the name of the series. However, it is very likely to be the upcoming Xiaomi 16 series.

The Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro will be powered by a SM8850 processor under their hoods. This is the codename for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset from Qualcomm that is likely to be released towards the end of 2025 in October. Interestingly, the lineup will be the first set of handsets to feature this processor.
The processor is expected to offer major efficiency and performance enhancements along with an improved GPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
The Xiaomi 16 series will house a periscope telephoto camera. No other details of the camera have been revealed. There is also no information about the other cameras in the smartphones.

In response to a comment on his post, the tipster mentions that the series has not yet forayed into the Production Validation Testing (PVT) stage. This is expected to take place in around the second quarter of 2025. More accurate details of the Xiaomi 16 series can be expected around that time.
The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro were launched in China in October and are headed for a global launch in the first quarter of 2025. It is expected that the Xiaomi Ultra will be released in the home country in February or March 2025.
