The iPhone 17 series from Apple will feature four models comprising the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max like the earlier lineups.

The Plus variant will now be replaced by the iPhone 17 Air with a very slim profile. It will be positioned between the Pro and Pro Max variants in the iPhone 17 series.

The upcoming lineup is expected to offer at least four major upgrades and changes over its predecessors.

1. ProMotion Technology

The manufacturer’s ProMotion technology was earlier restricted to only the Pro variants. However, starting from the iPhone 17 series, all the smartphones will support this technology. They will have LTPO OLED displays with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Always-On functionality as well as a tough anti-reflective screen coating for enhanced drop and scratch resistance.

2. Camera Upgrades in iPhone 17 Series

All four handsets will incorporate a revised camera module with a horizontal alignment. The iPhone Air will have only one 48 MP camera on the back, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have high-resolution ultra-wide and wide cameras along with a 48 MP telephoto lens. The Pro variants may support 8K video recording.

The major upgrade will be for the front camera. Apple has so far opted for a 12 MP snapper for its previous lineups. In contrast, the iPhone 17 series will house a 24 MP front-facing camera.

3. Powerful Performance

The handsets will deliver powerful performance because of the new A19 and A19 Pro chips from Apple. The base iPhone 17 variant will house the A19 chip along with RAM options of 8 GB to 12 GB. On the other hand, the Pro variants will house an A19 Pro processor incorporating the advanced 3 nm N3P process by TSMC for better performance and efficiency.

The vapor chamber cooling and enhanced thermal management of the Pro variants are slated to prevent them from getting overheated.

4. 5G Modem and Next-Gen Connectivity

The iPhone 17 Air will house the manufacturer’s 5G modem. This will be the first smartphone to house the manufacturer’s modem. Other handsets in the lineup will continue to have a Qualcomm modem.

All smartphones will support Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and have an in-house Wi-Fi chip with Wi-Fi 7 support.

While the iPhone17 series is bound to offer some noteworthy upgrades, the charging speeds and battery life of the handsets are likely to be unchanged.

The iPhone 17 series is slated to launch in September 2025. While the starting price of the base model is anticipated to be USD 799, the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro are expected to have starting prices of USD 899 and USD 999, respectively.
