Faster cars always have a demand in the market as people love fast, sporty models especially if they are turbo versions of existing models.
An upcoming Peugeot 3008 GTi SUV could be one such launch the automaker is planning now.
There is already a GT version of the car available in the market. The new one is proposed to be a faster, more powerful GTi SUV. It is supposed to be a flagship model that will entice customers to go for it because of its stylish appearance and groundbreaking speed despite the expensive price tag. The addition will be another sporty, premium model in the SUV line up Peugeot have.
“It is easy to say that the GT is the fastest version of the SUV available right now. The model continues to break sales records in the stores and when it reaches a saturation point, people might want a more powerful model to go for. When they do so, we will offer this car which is more expensive but also brings in solid performance,” commented project manager Marion David.
The current edition of the Peugeot 3008 is built on top of the EMP2 platform and it is a suitable platform for the 308. If required, the powertrain and the chassis being used for the 308 GTi can be moved to the hatchback. The model uses a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine which delivers a decent 267 horsepower and with some tweaking, it could easily become a strong GTi model.
Inside sources claim that Coupe Franche livery will be used in the upcoming Peugeot 3008 GTi model which allows the designers to go for a unique color variant for the back of the car. Such an option is already being provided in select 3008 variants and bringing the same feature to the faster model is an obvious decision.
The company is slowly building up their portfolio of cars, giving buyers more options to go for as they proceed. It is how any new brand of cars can be introduced to the customers. Taking one step at a time ensures the Peugeot 3008 is not overdone with multiple speedy variants. The brand experiment with the GT version and after making sure that they have enough support from people, they are moving on to a faster GTi edition. Both cars are sure to rock stores but we may have to wait for an official announcement and to know its specifications.
