Android 7.0 Nougat OTA Update to Arrive on OnePlus 3, OnePlus 2 by End of 2016

OnePlus 3

A top OnePlus official has confirmed that the flagship OnePlus 3 will receive the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update before the end of this year.

This is something that was expected given that the company had mentioned earlier that it had begun active works on the update. The 2016 flagship currently runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and apparently, a community build version will be ready before the end of this month.

If this materializes, OnePlus 3 will be among the first devices to receive the OTA update to Android 7.0 Nougat – an OS that is currently installed on a mere 0.3% of all Android devices across the globe. Since the OS has to be integrated with the company’s OxygenOS skin, it should take some time before everything is ready.

However, as reported by the company’s head of software, Brian Yoon, the latest OS should be available for OnePlus 3 users before the end of this year.

The same cannot be said of the 2015 OnePlus 2, which is also expected to receive the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS. According to the same official, the 2015 flagship will indeed receive the OTA update, but there is no specific date as to when this will be happening. In short, it is possible that this phone will start seeing the updated Android version somewhere in early 2017.

OnePlus 3T Launch

Unlike OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2, Yoon did not promise anything regarding the 2014 OnePlus One. Launched with Android KitKat on board, this device has only managed to receive an OTA update for Android Lollipop, however, it is still waiting for a Marshmallow OTA update. The only way to get the latter OS installed on this phone is via a custom ROM, something that could also be true with respect to Android 7.0 Nougat. In short, don’t get your hopes too high if you are still donning the 2014 OnePlus One.
