Android 7.0 Nougat Update – List of Phones Getting the New OS

Android 7.0 Nougat

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still rolling out to some handsets, but the anticipation for Android 7.0 Nougat is higher than never, with almost every Android user wondering when they will be able to taste this new flavor.

Google Nexus devices are already receiving the new update as at the time of this writing, but there is no OTA update for the likes of Nexus 5 2013 and Nexus 7 2013, among other older Nexus devices. Typically, the rollout is usually slow for the likes of Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola and a host of other third-party Android OEMs. It is possible that Android 7.0 Nougat may start reaching major OEMs later in the year or in early 2017.

Still, some like Sony have gone to the extent of rolling out a list of devices that should expect to receive Android 7.0 Nougat beginning this October. These devices include the newly launched Xperia XZ and X Compact, among other Xperia X handsets as well as last year’s Xperia Z5 range. This is an official update similar to what is rolling out to Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus 9 LTE. The same should also be happening for Nexus 6, Pixel C as well as Nexus Player in the coming days.

Apart from Sony, T-Mobile and HTC also confirmed the list of devices that can expect Android 7.0 Nougat probably before the end of this year. While HTC only mentions the 10, One M9 and One A9, T-Mobile goes further to include the Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Galaxy Note 5 as well as the entire Galaxy S6 series. It is unlikely that the 2015 Galaxy handsets will get the Nougat treat this year, instead, the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7 are expected to lead the way. In fact, Samsung is already running tests of Android 7.0 Nougat on a Galaxy S7 Edge, something that has prompted suggestions that the update could be unveiled sooner than expected.

Sony Xperia X Android Nougat Update

Motorola, another major name in the Android world, has also talked of the update being readied for the Moto Z and Moto G4 handsets, which should start rolling out this fourth quarter. For those using OnePlus 3, the company has also confirmed that it is actively working on the new Android 7.0 Nougat update for this flagship. Sony, on the other hand, has opened the Xperia Beta Program for the Xperia X Performance, but the slots are limited to certain regions.

Given that Android Marshmallow is still rolling out to certain devices, expect Android 7.0 Nougat to still be rolling out at such a time next year. With this in mind, there is little to rush about as the update will be here, eventually.
