Immediately after making the latest Android security patch available for Google Pixel and Nexus devices, the search engine giant has now made the latest Android 7.1.2 Nougat update official.
After the OS started appearing on some Google Pixel C devices a few days ago, the tech company has now made the factory images and OTA files available for download. As usual, the update is rolling out over the air and as such, Google has noted that it will take a few weeks before all Pixel and Nexus devices are updated.
Alternatively, you can grab the OTA and image files from the official Google websites, but why go through this hassle when you can simply sit back and wait for the OTA notification to hit your phone? Well, if you have been experiencing lots of issues to do with your battery, camera, Bluetooth connectivity, audio and many others, you might have the reasons to go for the OTA or image files rather than wait for the OTA notification.
As you may know by now, the latest Android 7.1.2 Nougat is actually a maintenance release. However, this is not something to skip, especially for those using the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X phones and the Google Pixel C tablet. In fact, the latter device is the largest beneficiary from this new Nougat update as it not only gets the usual bug fixes and stability improvements, it also gets a bunch of new features as well, including the new Pixel Launcher that adds a Pixel and Pixel XL touch to the tablet.
One change that Google Pixel C users will definitely enjoy is the new multitasking menu where one can easily switch between eight apps that are currently open on the device. As for the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the update to Android 7.1.2 Nougat brings a new roaming indicator in the phones’ status bar. Furthermore, the support for fingerprint gestures that debuted with the Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones has now made its way to the two Nexus phones. This means you will now be able to swipe on the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner to open the notification panel regardless of the current screen on your device.
Android 7.1.2 Nougat has a new feature for all devices, where users will now be able to access battery usage alerts for all installed apps. This should add to the enhanced battery management capabilities of the Nougat OS in general, which starts with the famous Doze mode.
As far as bugs are concerned, Google has confirmed that the rolling out Android 7.1.2 Nougat will take care of several issues that are being experienced on the Google Pixel and Pixel Xl phones. These include addressing the many Bluetooth connectivity issues that have recently been plaguing the two phones as well as solving the early battery shutdown issue.
Other issues that have been addressed include enhanced fingerprint swipe performance, the pink banding on the camera as well as the audio distortion issue that occurs at when playing music, for instance, at high volumes.
