Android 7.1 Nougat App Shortcuts Now Supported on Evernote App

Android 7.1 Nougat

The popular note-taking app Evernote has received a major update on Android devices, but this involves those using the app on the latest Android 7.1 Nougat.

The OS is already on a handful of Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Pixel C, but this version is still in beta. The devices that have the stable version of Android 7.1 Nougat are the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, the latest smartphone offerings from Google.

When you long-press the Evernote app, be it from the home screen or in the app drawer, four shortcuts will show up. These are Search, Camera, Audio and Simple Note. In case you didn’t know, all app shortcuts in Android 7.1 Nougat can be played around with. So, the actions you come across on the Evernote app for the first time are just the default options, however, dragging the shortcuts to the home screen can also create another shortcut that leads the specific action you want.

The new app shortcuts feature on Android 7.1 Nougat tries to mimic what Apple does with the 3D Touch pressure-sensitive feature on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. This feature made its debut on the iPhone 6S, however, Google’s offering is far from what Apple offers. If anything, Google has just added some soup to the long-press feature of app icons.

Even though some Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X users have been able to access the beta version of Android 7.1 Nougat, not all apps could take advantage of this app shortcuts feature. In fact, Evernote is the first non-Google app to come in with support for this feature, which is only available in Google apps.

Android 7.1 Nougat

In addition to supporting a new Android 7.1 Nougat feature, the Evernote app update also comes with performance improvements as well as bug fixes. Given that this OS update is still very young, we expect to see more developers introducing this feature into their apps.
