Android Nougat starts rolling out to OG Samsung Galaxy J7 (Boost Mobile) and Galaxy J3 V 2016

Android 7.0 Nougat Update

At the moment, any mention of an Android software update brings the idea of Oreo, but this is not the case for users of the original Samsung Galaxy J7 on Boost Mobile and the smaller Galaxy J3 V 2016, which is a Verizon model.

The OG Samsung Galaxy J7 was launched on Boost Mobile back in 2015 and it’s a great thing to see Samsung is still taking care of a budget phone that is more than two years old. Of course, Android 7.0 Nougat is not the latest version in town, but it will ring major changes to the entire software experience compared to the previous Marshmallow.

The update installs software version J700PVPE2BQJ2 and it comes several weeks after T-Mobile rolled out a Nougat treat to its variant of the Galaxy J7. However, unlike Boost Mobile, T-Mobile users received the newer version of Nougat, which carries software version 7.1.1. Make sure you get this update, because you won’t see another OS upgrade after this.

The story is the same for those using Samsung Galaxy J3 V 2016, which carries model number SM-J320V. However, Verizon is pushing out the newer Android 7.1.1 Nougat to the budget phone with software version J320VVRU2BQJ1. This is an OTA update, just like the Galaxy J7, which means all units will not receive the OS at once, instead, it will take some time before everyone gets the OTA notification to download and install the OS.

If you haven’t received the update already, now would be an ideal time to hit the Settings of your Samsung Galaxy J7 or Galaxy J3 V 2016.
