ASUS is rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for users of the ZenFone 2 Laser and besides coming in with the usual goodies of this new OS, the update has also done away with massive bloatware.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow was officially released late last year and since then, several OEMs have been busy with rolling out the update to their devices. ASUS is just one of the OEMs that are still rolling out the updates to their devices despite the fact that the firmware has been here for more than 6 months now.

But it is better late than never for owners of ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser. The update brings this phone’s software version to 13.10.6.16_M3.6.44. The device was previously installed with Android Lollipop and just like many other Android OEMs, the device has an ASUS UI running on top of the stock Android OS.

Many have accused the company of its heavy bloatware that sometimes gets in the way of users, making the phones cluttered and cumbersome to navigate. Well, if this has been a huge concern for as far as ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is concerned, at least for now, you can quash away your worries as the new Marshmallow update has done quite an impressive of eliminating bloatware from this device.

ZenFone 2 Laser Marshmallow update kills more than 12 preloaded apps

In the latest Marshmallow update for ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser, there will be more than 12 apps removed once the device completes the upgrade. This is great news as the phone will finally feel clutter-free with the likes of ASUS Backup, Photo Frame, Omlet, PC Link, Yahoo Shopping, Dr. Safety, Data Transfer, Party Link, EZ Ding, iReader, Google+, Mirror, Dr. Eye and many others removed.

This is huge for owners of ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser as they have previously been limited to updates involving bug and error fixes and a few improvements here and there.

While the Marshmallow update on the ZenFone 2 Laser variant gets rid of a wide range of apps, it also adds a few, including Dr. Booster, Google Messenger, and Google Calendar.

ASUS’ Warning

Before jumping on to update your ZenFone 2 Laser smartphone to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, there is a warning for you. According to the OEM, ensure you first move your apps to internal storage since the update won’t be compatible with APP2SD.

In addition, the company advises that one removes the ASUS Email, ASUS Messaging, and ASUS Calendar since they won’t preload in this version. Instead, users can turn to Google Messenger, Google Calendar, and Gmail. Another strange thing is that the Marshmallow update will not offer support for multiple user functionalities as long as the account is deleted, so, make sure you keep using your account.

It is also recommended that the available internal storage will reduce once the ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser is done with the update, hence, ensure you keep a backup of your media files on your microSD card.

As usual, the update is coming out in phases and as such, it will not be pushed to all devices at the same time. If you can’t wait for the OTA notification, you can check for the update’s availability manually by going to Settings>About device>Software update>Check for updates.
