ASUS was at the Computex 2016 event and back then, the Taiwanese tech giant announced a set of new ZenFone 3 smartphones that is led by the flagship ZenFone 3 Deluxe.
At the time, the company went ahead to give the public a taste of what specs the phone will carry when it is finally announced. The ZenFone 3 Deluxe will feature a 5.7-inch display panel that packs a 1080p resolution and under the hood, everyone knew that a Snapdragon 820 SoC will be coming, just like it has been happening with a good number of 2016 Android flagships. The phone is also expected to come with a massive RAM of 6GB, a decent 3000mAh battery unit that is charged via a USB Type-C 3.0 port. The rear panel will carry a huge 23MP camera and the phone will also have a massive storage of 256GB.
While a good number of these specs and features will still be present when the ZenFone 3 Deluxe is released, we now have confirmation that the handset will indeed come with the new Snapdragon 821 SoC. Qualcomm announced this chipset early this week and apparently, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe will be the first phone to come with the processor.
Already Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5, Xperia X Performance, HTC 10, OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi5, just to name but a few, run on the current Snapdragon 820. However, new Snapdragon 821 SoC is a slight improvement over the former, with Qualcomm saying that it adds a 10% to the performance levels of its predecessor. The chipset also comes with a higher clock speed of 2.4GHz as opposed to the 2.2GHz of its predecessor and a possibly enhanced Adreno 530 with a speed of 650MHz, which is higher than the 624MHz you get on the Adreno 530 used on the Snapdragon 820.
Apparently, the ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe will come in three variants that are differentiated mainly by storage. There will be 64GB, 128GB, and a high-end 256GB variant. According to the latest reports, the Snapdragon 821 SoC will power the high-end ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe while the other two will be powered by the Snapdragon 820. The company has only mentioned of a 6GB RAM on all three variants of the Deluxe, but there are some reports pointing towards a 4GB RAM for the low-end 64GB variant.
In terms of price, the low-end variant will start at $500 while the high-end ZenFone3 Deluxe will cost about $780.
