ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom is one of the few smartphones that were launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017, however, the phone has not yet been released in the U.S.
At the time of launch, the Taiwanese tech giant had confirmed that the ZenFone 3 Zoom will be in the U.S. before the end of this quarter. Even though we still got a month before Q1 2017 comes to an end, ASUS has confirmed that the powerful camera phone will not ship this quarter, rather, the wait will go on until Q2.
The company made this information public via a respond to a post on Facebook, confirming that the phone’s release in the country will not happen until Q2. According to the comment, ASUS is delaying the ZenFone 3 Zoom because it is “reworking it with better specs” so that the end product is a more “awesome smartphone to use.”
As for now, we can’t confirm anything regarding the supposed “better specs” that the company is working on for the refreshed ZenFone 3 Zoom. In addition, it is unclear whether the company will still value the phone at $399, just like it had valued the already announced version. Despite confirming that the release will now happen in Q2, there is no mention of the specific date as to when this will be happening.
The ZenFone 3 Zoom is already available for purchase in Taiwan. The region can only purchase the 64GB variant for now, which costs NT$ 14,990 or $488.99. The variant selling in China has 128GB of storage on board, but this one is priced at CNY 3,699, which equates to about $538. As for the rest of the specs, the ZenFone 3 Zoom has a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 1080p resolution and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 technology on top of it. Under the hood, the phone packs a Snapdragon 625 SoC that is paired with a RAM of 4GB and runs Android Marshmallow out of the box.
The U.S. variant was set to come in with 32GB of storage, but as noted earlier, there are 64GB and 128GB variants as well. All three support microSD card storage with a capacity of 256GB. The power of the ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom comes with the camera, where the back has a dual 12MP lens. One lens has an aperture of f/1.7 and the zoom lens has an aperture of f/2.8. You also get support for 4-axis OIS, laser and phase detection AF, dual-tone LED flash and the second lens supports up to 2.3x optical zoom factor. The main camera can also record 4K videos as well as 9MP image recording.
As for the selfie camera, you get a 13MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.0 and support for 1080p video recording. There is support for USB-C, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a monstrous 5000mAh battery that is supported by fast battery charging technology. We’ll soon know the upgrades that ASUS is bringing in later in Q2.
