The Google Nexus 6 is now over two years old following its release back in November 2014. Given its age, the device is lucky to be still receiving software updates thanks at this point in time.
Looking at Google’s support page, the Motorola Nexus 6 has no guaranteed software updates after October 2016. In short, the last time users of this phablet were guaranteed software updates from Google was back in 2016. However, the phone recently received Android 7.1.1 Nougat OTA updates, an update that could well be its last.
Even though the search engine giant has rolled out the new version 7.1.1 Nougat to the 2014 flagship, those using the Google Nexus 6 on AT&T are still stuck on the older Android 7.0 Nougat. Many are eagerly waiting for the new version to come in, but it seems this wait is still on. Still, the American carrier hasn’t completely neglected those using this phone.
Apparently, there is a small update rolling out to AT&T users of the Nexus 6, but it only brings the latest Android Security Patch for the month of January. It weighs about 26MB and ups the software version to NBD91W. It also brings Android fixes for any new bugs discovered by the Google team, meaning you still need to install it, even if there are no new features.
The update has just begun and since it is an OTA, it will take some time before all Google Nexus 6 units receive the notification to download it. Still, you can check for the update’s availability by going to the phone’s Settings.
As noted earlier, Google has already rolled out Android 7.1.1 Nougat to Nexus 6, however, AT&T has not mentioned any specific date that users of the phone on this carrier can expect to receive the new OS. We’ll keep following this matter and update you with the latest details as to when the OS will be ready for download. Stay tuned!
