BMW is about to make some huge announcements at the upcoming 2017 North American International Auto Expo in Detroit on January 9, 2017. The event will witness the launch of the next gen BMW 5 series car along with M Performance, iPerformance plug-in hybrid cars.
The expo is about to get big during the BMW group press conference. The company in their official press statement confirmed that they will launch the BMW 530e iPerformance, along with the BMW 5 series sedan. With the latest version, a wide range of new features are being incorporated into the series. It includes new heads up display, remote 3D view, gesture control system and better voice control.
Safety features found in the BMW 5 series cars are remote controlled parking system, advanced drive assisted system and semi-automated driving. The BMW 540i xDrive edition is powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine. It is capable of producing up to 335 horsepower which is about 35hp more than the outgoing model. The car can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in about 4.7 seconds. The top speed of the model is pegged at 155 miles per hour.
When it comes to luxurious elite finish, the BMW M550i xDrive is the edition to go for. The car is powered by a bigger 8-cylinder engine capable of producing up to 456 horsepower. The powertrain is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission system and can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 4.0 seconds.
The next in the line is the BMW 530e iPerformance variant which houses a 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The car can produce 248 horsepower which is not on par with the flagship models yet good as a standalone car with about 310 lb feet of torque. Its electric motor offers up to 15 miles on a single charge before switching to the conventional engine. The entry level 2017 BMW 5 series model can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds.
The flagship model about to be launched at the international auto expo is the BMW 740e xDrive iPerformance. The plug-in hybrid edition features a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with exclusive TwinPower Turbo technology. The engine produces about 322 horsepower and the powerful battery cells allow it to go up to 14 miles before switching to the gasoline engine. It will be priced at $90,095 in the United States including destination charges. The entry level 2017 BMW 330e will be priced at $45,095.
