Call of Duty: Warzone: Why Cheating Remains The Biggest Issue In The Game

Call of Duty Warzone

While Activision has taken certain steps to combat this menace, a lot more needs to be done in this regard!

There have been several occasions during which fans have been upset with the weapon rebalances, seasonal changes and map rotations introduced in the game. However, the biggest threat affecting the game, as fans have time and again noted, has been cheating. Though enforcement efforts have been carried out from time to time, wallhacks, overlays, aim smoothing and aim smoothing issues remain relevant.

If one takes into account competitive events or casual matchmaking sessions, one cannot deny the fact that cheaters have affected the overall integrity of the game.

Ever since Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 came out, the RICHOCHET anti-cheat system, put together by Activision, has become more and more intensive. Apart from server-side analytics, it comes equipped with kernel driver and manual investigations to detect the presence of exploitative software.

A while back, Activision confirmed that they are actively banning cheating accounts. Despite this, one can see cheaters making an appearance in both ranked and casual lobbies. For some players, however, they have become a part of the overall experience of playing Warzone.

Back Ops 6 was launched officially in October 2024. Since then, as per official data, more than 228,000 accounts have been flagged off and banned. It must also be mentioned here that a minimum of 150 cheat resellers have suffered from disruption or have been shut down. These enforcement statistics by RICHOCHET make one believe that a lot is being done to control this menace. However, if one goes by the experience of actual players, a lot more needs to be done to stop players from cheating.

One of the things players have been concerned about is cheaters continuing to get the chance to get into regular lobbies quite regularly. As reported by Activision, cheating accounts get banned within four matches. Even if we take this fact into account, one cannot deny the fact that cheaters need just a small window to make a move.

Creating an account on Activision is as easy as it gets. This leads to cheaters treating short-lived accounts that are easily disposable. Seasoned cheaters are well aware of the fact that create new accounts easily and continue to cheat for as long as they want.

In the past, Activision has taken disciplinary action against several activities. The studio representatives have often stated that they have a zero tolerance policy towards disruptive behavior. A while back, players interested in AFK farming suffered from a ban in the Plunder mode of Warzone. This, as many fans would know, is a method that is employed to get XP without any active participation. A while back, Call of Duty made it mandatory for players to enter important information, such as their date of birth, while creating an account for themselves on Activision.

Activision does deserve credit for taking a lot of important initiatives to create a more positive and productive community. In the near future, one expects the studio to implement stricter identity verification processes to control cheating.
