Entry Level Samsung Galaxy S10 Model to Sport Side-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner

The South Korean giant is expected to introduce overhaul improvements on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 series.

Fresh information coming from South Korea reveals that the Galaxy S10 series will include three smartphones. The first one will be an entry-level model that will be arriving with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and others will be equipped with under-display fingerprint scanners.

Three Galaxy S10 Models

It is speculated that claimed that the South Korean tech giant is currently testing three Galaxy S10 models that are respectively codenamed as Beyond 0, Beyond 1 and Beyond 2. According to a previous report, the Beyond 0 model will be coming with 5.8-inch display and single rear camera. The Beyond 1 is also expected to come with a same-sized display with dual rear cameras and Beyond 2 may feature 6.2-inch display with triple rear cameras.

The Beyond 1 and 2 models are likely to hit the market with respective monikers of Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus whereas there is no information on the actual product name of Beyond 0. The three-tier series is quite similar to Huawei P20 lineup that includes P20, P20 Pro and P20 Lite. The entry-level Beyond 0 could be called Galaxy S10 Lite.

Citing industry sources, publication TheBell is now claiming that fingerprint scanner will be the biggest differentiating feature of the S10 series. According to the report, the Beyond 0 model is an entry-level phone which has been included for the first time in the Galaxy S series. Its fingerprint scanner could be embedded on the right edge of the phone like the Motorola Moto Z3 Play. It could be the first Samsung phone ever to feature a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus are expected to arrive with under-display fingerprint scanner that will be reportedly supplied by Qualcomm. Modularization of the Qualcomm sensor will be done a Chinese camera module manufacturer named O-Film. After receiving under-display scanner module from O-Film, Samsung Display will attach it to the backside of the OLED panel.

Each under-display fingerprint scanner module is estimated to be priced around $15 which is 7 times more than the conventional rear-mounted fingerprint scanner module. Also, Samsung is also expected to include triple rear cameras on the Galaxy S10 Plus. Hence, the upcoming Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus flagship phones that will be arriving as 10th anniversary Galaxy S series models are expected to carry expensive price tags.

The South Korean company is yet to confirm the specs of the S10 series with the parts industry. Recent reports have revealed that the company may debut the Galaxy S10 series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in February. Since the launch of Galaxy S10 series is around 6 months away, accurate information on their specifications are expected to surface later in this year.
