The latest Android security patch for the month of March is all set to start rolling out in the coming week, but it is just now that most non-Google OEMs are busy rolling out the February Android security update to supported devices.
We’ve seen the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge receive the February Android security update in some markets, but it is just now that those in India can speak of the same. A few days ago, Samsung India started rolling out last month’s update to the standard Galaxy S7, but those on the S7 Edge did not receive the same treat. This is no more as the update is rolling out as at the time of this writing.
Like the Galaxy S7, those using the S7 Edge can expect to receive an OTA update with build number G935FXXU1DQBO and it weighs about 104MB, so make sure you are connected to the internet via a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Galaxy S7 Edge is not the only Sammy device that is being updated to the latest security patch level. Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+ as well as the newest member of the Note series, the Galaxy Note 5, are also part of the update. However, this is happening in the U.S. for those using the mentioned phones on Sprint.
If you are using the standard Samsung Galaxy S6, the February Android security update comes with software version number G920PVPS4CQB1. As for those using the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge+, you can expect a firmware update with build number G925PVPS4CQB1 and G928PVPS3BQB1, respectively. As noted, Sprint is also making the update available to Samsung Galaxy Note 5, which will receive software version N920PVPS3BQB1.
After rolling out the same February Android security update to a number of Samsung devices, Verizon Wireless has now turned its attention to LG. Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy S6 series and Galaxy Note 5 will be joined by LG G3, LG K4 and LG G Vista in receiving this update on the Big Red. Where the software on the LG G3 is being updated to version VS9854BA, those on the LG G Vista will do with version VS88027A. As for the LG K4, the software will be bumped to version VS42525A.
If you can’t see the OTA notification just yet, try doing a manual check via Settings>About device>System updates, but this doesn’t guarantee you the latest February Android security patch. Alternatively, just be patient and you’ll be notified to download the update in a few days’ time.
