There have been several rumors going around the popular Final Fantasy 9, including the possibility of a remake.
Director and producer Naoki Yoshida of Final Fantasy 14 has now stepped in to speak about most of the rumors including that of the likelihood of a remake. A majority of the rumors were triggered by several insiders and leakers. This has made it difficult to determine how much of what is fact and what is speculation. Some rumors went that extra step to suggest that the Final Fantasy 9 remake was in progress at Creative Business Unit 3 where Final Fantasy 14 and 16 took form.

Naoki Yoshida said there was no remake of Final Fantasy 9 in the works. He went on to add that doing so would turn out to be a massive undertaking to do so.

According to a post on the popular X platform, Yoshi also made it clear that the collaboration between FF14 and FF9 was not an indication of a Final Fantasy IX remake. The team had not thought anything about it in the commercial sense. He wished any team that planned to do so all the best.
Interestingly, the Creative Business Unit 3 studio is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Final Fantasy 14 MMO. This game is known for having several collaborations with various other games in the past with Final Fantasy 9 being one of them.

Before Downtrail Expansion was launched for FF14, Yoshida mentioned that there was a reason why it referenced FF9. Hence, it only added benefit to the doubt among FF fans that there would be a FF9 remake. Yoshida denied any such development in progress at Creative Business Unit 3 and stressed this once again when he was asked about it in a recent interview at Gamescom with jpgames.
