The LG V20 will be launched during the second week of September at an event in New York City, with another similar launch event taking place in the company’s home country of South Korea.
When the phone is announced, it will probably be the first to be powered by the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS that has yet to be released for public use, but is expected to be out before the end of this month. As usual, rumors of the phone’s specs, features as well as design have already begun cropping up and the latest involves a photo showing off the supposed LG V20 handset.
There are some similarities between the new LG V20 and the current LG V10 as expected, but the real shock is the similarity between the phablet and the LG G5. The lines and design of the phone towards the bottom end of the phone could easily suggest that we are looking at another modular design from LG. Like the previously released flagships, the LG V20 will retain the fingerprint sensor as well as its location. It will also keep the secondary screen of the LG V10 while at the same time keeping the dual-lens camera setup introduced on the LG G5.
Of course, these design specs and performance features are based on rumors and the phone’s predecessors. However, what LG has confirmed is that the V20 will come powered by Android 7.0 Nougat, which could mean the phone makes it as the first to be based on this OS, just ahead of Google’s official release of the Nexus 2016 handsets.
With the OS confirmed, the puzzle now remains with respect to the hardware specs. Given that the phone will be joining the flagship world, expect a Snapdragon 820 SoC on board alongside an Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB RAM, just like what already appears on the LG G5.
There is not so much known about the details of the upcoming LG V20, but since it is coming to take the place of the LG V10, expect some minor or even major improvements, starting with the design language all the way to the little things that matter less to some people.
Last year’s LG V10 came in with monster specs that easily convinced many buyers that the phone was a better option when compared to the LG G4 released earlier the same year. Whether the LG V20 will also be a better choice than the LG G5 is still unknown, but based on a number of rumors, the new phone will definitely be bigger in terms of everything when compared to its predecessor.
