How to get AT&T’s DirecTV on your Moto Z2 Force

AT&T’s DirecTV has been around for a while now, but not all devices are supported. The good side of the story is that the carrier has been rolling out updates to enable this service on various handsets and the latest is the Moto Z2 Force.

If you own the Moto Z2 Force, your time of joining the DirecTV family has finally arrived. Through the latest update, which also installs a new Android security patch, those using this Lenovo-made phone can now bring along their TV service whenever they are on the road.

Prior to this update, Moto Z2 Force users were unable to download and install the DirecTV app via the Google Play Store. However, it’s now possible to do so after installing this new OTA. As noted, the update not only adds support to the AT&T TV service, but it also installs a new security patch, but not the latest one.

Despite not being the latest, the November security patch comes with fixes for various bugs, among them the Blueborne vulnerability. The update ships with software version NCX26.122-59-8-11-1 and weighs less than 100MB.

The Moto Z2 Force came preinstalled with Android 7.1.1 Nougat and even after this update, there’s still no Oreo. It’s not a surprise that Motorola devices are yet to receive an OS upgrade to Oreo. This has been the case ever since Lenovo took over reigns at the company. On the brighter side, the phone is already beta-testing Oreo, which could mean the stable OTA will be ready in early 2018.

So, if you want to get DirecTV on your Moto Z2 Force, make sure you grab the latest update on your phone and right after, head to the Play Store and download the app. For those who can’t wait for the OTA notification, you may want to try a manual update via the phone’s Settings menu.
